So here’s another one of those studies that fits into the “I guess it looks like what we thought” category. Researchers in New Zealand have found that people who were overweight and had type 2 diabetes were able to lose weight equally on a low fat/high protein or low fat/high carbohydrate diet. The end result being that the number of calories consumed made the biggest difference. This makes sense since eating less and causing an energy deficit will result in weight loss. If you eat more than you need the body doesn’t want to waste that food energy so it stores it as fat. By eating less than you need you body taps into that energy stored as fat and burns it off. So it all comes back to diet and exercise again.
